Frank Barnes School to be demolished

 What's happening at Frank Barnes School? Rumours abound after Camden Councils planned to demolish the school  to make way for a new secondary school and special school on its own site.  Though deaf children  from all over London use the school there are few deaf children from Campden itself.

The school  attracts children from 16 boroughs  has 44 places for children aged 3 to 11 years, who are deaf, although there are only 35 children on the roll at present, of these three are Camden residents.

On  Wednesday October 31 at 6.30pm deaf people are protesting outside Camden Town Hall wearing Halloween costume

But what is the future? Merger with blanche Neville School, a new site, or closure.?  Read more for Campden Council's press release

DAT Conference at Whitby

In May 2007 Deaf Anglicans Together gathered at Sneaton Castle in Whitby for a weekend of Fun and Fellowship and Teaching.

The Keynote speakers were Penny Beschizza and Gill Behenna. 

Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying the beauty of the Yorkshire Coast , the excellent accommodation at  Sneaton Castle and a time of learning together.

Deaf Anglicans Together has been running for 40 years under its previous name of NDCC.

Research Opportunity for BSL Bible

A collaborative research studentship is available at The University of
Manchester to study and evaluate a process of Biblical translation and
its impact on community identity.

The studentship is full time, 50% of which will be spent working for
the BSL Bible Translation project on activities which will form an integral component
of the research.

The award will cover fees and expenses and a £12,300 p.a. maintenance
award.

The Church Colleges Certificate in Christian Ministry is now recruiting for the second intake for its 2007-2008 course taught and assessed using British Sign language. Last year's students and tutors were thrilled with all that was achieved in the first year of this course.

BSL Bible Project Stirs Controversy

Since the BSL Bible Translation project has  launched  the new website  (see earlier article on Deafchurch.co.uk) it has stirred up  a buzz of  of controversy  on the See Hear Message Boards  and in the the Deaf  online Blogsphere.

Over 130 post have already appeared on the See hear Message boards

The  website has  has also  been  the subject of Deaf blogs.

 Bible Translation has always generated controversy (The first English Bibles  certainly did and it seems the proposals for th BSL  Bible are no exception

Signed TV under threat?
