Sign Language in space!!

NASA Astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson has made the first sign Language broadcast from Space.   Tracy is hearing but learnt ASL  when she met a deaf friend  on the running track, and continued her sign language studies   to support a Deaf student on her chemistry course. She is now an astronaut on the International Space Station.  Watch the video. If your ASL isn't up to it you can watch the captions (subtitles). I love the way her hair floats in the weightless conditions  as she signs!  Sign Language is up there and being broadcast from space !

Now we just need the first British Deaf Astronaut to sign BSL in space!!

You Tube to get auto Subtitles

YouTube's parent company Google has announced on its blog that automatic captions are to begin to roll out across the site. The machine-generated captions will initially be generated in English. At first they will only be found on 13 channels.

The software engineer behind the technology, Ken Harrenstien, is deaf. The new system  solution combines automatic speech recognition with the current manual caption system.

Sadly the the translation is not always perfect , but Mr Harrenstien says that the technology "will continue to improve with time".

A better alternative is for users to upload a transcript of their video and auto-timing algorithms will match the text to the words as they are spoken.

MICHAEL JACKSON WANTED SIGN AND SIGN

Before his untimely Death Michael Jackson had planned  all the children who were perform with him during his London residency should know sign language.

The 'Thriller' singer was due to kick-off his 50-date residency at London's O2 arena next month and  sent an email telling promoters AEG the requirements he wants for his team of young singers.

A source said: "Normally when we cast choirs for acts, it's quite a laborious task. But in this case, it's proving a near impossibility. Jackson is a perfectionist and wants it exactly right and that means every child being able to do sign language.
